Chestnut Class – Year 4

Chestnut Class is a mixed class of 32 Year 3 and Year 4 children. In our class, we are working to establish a community where everyone's needs, differences and strengths are recognised and celebrated. We work hard to communicate effectively with each other, and the children are learning the value of kindness and support.

We are developing our independence by looking after our own resources, ensuring that our individual learning packs are stocked with everything we need for the day. We also make sure that our homework books are placed in the correct location within the classroom.

The children in Year 3 are working to develop their use of Year 3 and 4 common exception words and spell them correctly. They are also learning to ensure that their writing is correctly punctuated and enriched through the use of powerful adjectives, prepositions, adverbs and conjunctions.

The Year 4 children are continuing to develop and refine the skills they learned in Year 3. They are also becoming more independent in editing their work, recognising errors and making improvements through the use of increasingly rich vocabulary.

In mathematics, we are developing our fluency in recalling multiplication facts. The Year 3 children are broadening their knowledge of multiplication facts, while the Year 4 children are improving the speed and accuracy of their recall in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in the Summer Term.

We aim to establish a classroom environment where all children feel safe, respected and confident when sharing their opinions and engaging in class discussions.
